![]() Red Amidst The White In blaze resplendent, red amidst the white, O'er dead that lie around her earthy root, Behold, she stands alone, in Autumn's light, A silent sentinel, aloof and mute. A witness to their place of earthly rest, Beneath memorials to battle's slain, Those heroes, who gave of their bravest best, And now, beneath this hallowed ground, are lain. No widow's weeds for her, but boldest red, As bold as those lost warriors, long gone, In memory of lifeblood that was shed, In freedom's gory conflicts, fought and won. A sight to stir the soul and touch the mind, And comfort those bereaved and left behind.
