Rainy Day Reflections
Just another rainy day, looking out of a window.

I can hear the rain drumming on the window,
I stare at the bleak empty street beyond,
Dark silky puddles with ringlets in shadow,
Where raindrops fall like stones in a pond.

A child appears wearing macintosh and galoshes,
Stamps on buildings reflected on the ground,
Unaware of a watcher, happily he sploshes
Although he’s laughing, I can't hear a sound.

Many moments pass then I realise he's gone,
I stare at the rain and the sodden street below.
A youth wanders by in shoes that once shone,
Scuffing indifferently with nowhere to go.

A couple stroll by beneath a shared umbrella,
Their faces obscured but obviously in love,
For as she speaks she leans into her fella
Uncaring, unconscious of rain falling above.

Again the street’s empty, as if never occupied,
The world’s wet with sullen, swollen skies,
The scene portrays my feelings since Betty died,
The street no longer visible tears fill my eyes.
