CHILD OF THE NIGHT

He was young and uncertain,
this child of the night,
walking alone with his memories,
confusion and fright.

He knew not the answers
or why he was chosen,
a victim of violence,
his heart soon frozen.

A chill in the air,
Autumn winds blowing strong;
His sky forever darkened
Life's melody long gone.

Who is this child -
who cannot forgive?
The remnants of pain
force him to live.

Saying "I'm sorry, son"
does not make it right;
He walks away crying -
This child of the night.
