Lady Oak
Cycle of the Seasons

Through the summer days and nights,
The grand oak has always stood;
Over forgotten and fallen knights,
As Lady Oak knew she would.

Nameless warrior boys and men of the past,
Once filled with bravery and fear,
And when the final die was cast,
Their resting place was here.

Over many graves no tears were shed,
Only one prayer was ever said,
As shading oak boughs over head,
Swayed with the Amen.

In July, single roses and flags galore,
Are placed on each and every grave.
On honored days they are remembered for
Their very lives they gave

Lady Oak still stands proud,
As Summer wanes into the Fall.
She does what nature allows,
More than just watching over all.

Green leaves turn to blades of gold,
Then slowly turn to red.
Lady Oak prepares for the cold,
Before she seeks Nature’s bed.

Oncoming winds strafe the protective tree,
Lady Oak begins to shiver.
Setting scarlet leaves free,
To the ground they are delivered.

Layer upon layer covers the ground,
Till all her branches are bare.
The wind helps spread her blanket around,
To cover the forgotten heroes there.

Winter will soon transpire
To make a wonderland,
Of snowy white and icy fire
As only nature can.

Beneath a new frosty blanket of snow
Everything will sleep in peace
Till purple crocus heads show
And spring gives Lady Oak her release.
