Sympathy Kills
Although having empathy can be good, sympathy is almost always destructive.

Sympathy Kills

Sympathy kills
Smothering wills
Smoldering fires
Dampening desires
Struggles extracted
Learning retracted
Meaning forgotten
Everything's rotten.
Pity the man
On the verge of “I can!”
Drown him in sorrow
Snuff out his tomorrow.
As he grasps to reach higher
Cause him to tire
Make him know he's abused
That he'll always lose
Make the price seem too high,
The goal, pie in the sky;
Each step way too hard
And every struggle regard
As not worth the try:
You live and then die
You get what you can
In your short span
And then when it's over
You lie 'neath the clover
And rot and decay
With no more to say
All hope is gone
Nothing you've won.
So all you can do
Is lie there and stew.
How great it is
Your “friend” reminded you of this!
Put out your fires
Destroyed your desire
So you won't look to the hills:
Sympathy kills!
