The Apparition
Our house is a little haunted and was the inspiration for this poem.

The Apparition
by Jamie Whitten

Upon the marble staircase,
Upon the ebony stair,
A girl in pink chamois came a gliding,
As if walking on thin air.

The crimson of her blushing cheek,
The flower in her light brown hair,
From another time, I see her,
In all her splendor there.

The expression on her face is joyous,
Her blue eyes, they seem to dance,
Could she be looking for her lover,
Or an old flame, perchance?

Where was it that she was going?
She vanishes when eye contact is made.
Is she a whisper from the past or
Is she part of some ghostly parade?

Upon the marble staircase,
Upon the ebony stair,
The lithely sprite comes a gliding,
But she isn’t really there.
