Halloween Walkers
I can remember the time when I was a little boy, and my granny b would always tell me and my brother the tale of the Halloween Walkers before we would go out trick or treating. She told the both of us about the tale and how they loved to walk among us and act like humans. But really they were angels from hell, and who loved to still children’s innocent soul who walked alone on the scariest night of the season.
Oh Granny b! you are fibbing. There are no such angels from hell that will get our soul. And if it were true then how come me and my brother are not stolen by now?
Because child when you two go out I always pin you both with the St. Michael pin on you boys, and that shows them the bright light of love. And therefore they pass you two by.
“Granny b, that sounds so funny.”
“Silly as it may be. That is the truth child,” now go get ready because your brother looks like he is going to explode with impatience.”
He let out a small giggle and ran upstairs to put on his costume, which his granny b made out of her left over quilting scraps.
I can remember the costume like it was today.
The boys ran downstairs and almost flew out when granny b yelled out--
“Don’t forget your St. Michael pin”
Oh! Granny b the boys said.!
Don’t granny b me.
As she pined us, we gave her a peak on the cheek walking out the door.
I secretly took off the pin not believing a word she said to us. All I wanted was candy and candy.
The brothers walked hand in hand down the long narrow block that was decorated with Halloween spirit.
Walking house to house getting all the goods they came to the end of the block with the only house that was not decorated in spirit, and looked like an old must mansion that you see in horror movies.
Hey brother lets go in there and see what kind of people live there?
No brother! Your crazy I just want to go trick or treating can we go now?
Ok, lets go then baby.
I’m not a baby.
Chasing each other down the block, little Tommy smelled a smell that he never smelled before. Like left over rotten food.
Robby can you smell that awful rot?
No! now lets go. Tommy said.
The continued to walk over to the other block. Tommy could not stand that awful stench, so he glanced in back of him, and their walking next to them was a little odd boy with the weirdest costume, he kept walking faster to catch up to the brothers.
Turning back too look at his brother
Tommy looked back again and saw that there was a dozen kids in back of them.
How can that be Tommy said?
What, his brother Robby said.
Nothing don’t worry about it.
The smell gotten worse, and Tommy turned around to ask the kids if they new what that horrid smell was.
When Tommy looked at the little boys he notice their eyes to be black as night. With a fright he heard the ugliest laugh come out of them and heard one say.
“So this is the one that is too old to believe in granny b folk lore?”
Yes, the other little boy said.
That’s him little Tommy.
What was weird was their voices sounded like old men.
Tommy turned to his brother, and he was already down the block half way. He yelled out for Robby. But he was just to far to hear him.
Just then the little kids started to sing:
“Halloween Walkers that is what we are called, believe in us not, and we shall come to call upon thee, for we are called the Halloween Walkers”
With that same ugly laughter before, now they sang it in that tune.
I still could hear that creepy song recalls Tommy.
Tommy was frozen with fright just glazing at the kids, the one boy was coming near him, and just as he was reaching out to Tommy.
Tommy did remember the pin that he took off and put in his pocket, and pined it on his costume really fast.
Just then before his eyes they had vanished just like they had appeared.
Running to Robbie, he told him of his experience and that granny b was telling the truth.
Robby could not believe him and started laughing at him.
!Fine don’t believe me then!
They continued to walk down the block till they got home.
And as I can remember I still have not told anyone of this, so to this day I now pin my son with my old pin of St. Michael.
Walking out the door with his son he could hear the kids in costume sing the Halloween walker song, wondering if they are just kids who was also told the tale or not?
The End
