I've seen references to NaNoWriMo here and there but didn't have a clue as to what it was. I found it just a couple of days ago in Writer's Yearbook Extra 2004 while reading during my lunch break. So here it is, for those wondering: November is National Novel Writing Month! To celebrate and encourage novel writing, www.nanowrimo.org is providing web space for all those willing to take up the challenge of writing a 50,000 word novel within the month of November. I have been finding it extremely difficult to create writing time, and my first thought was Yeah, right! Like that's anywhere near doable! Okay, I'm still not sure I can, but I decided to attempt it because of two reasons. First, I've been asked for a sequel to Finishing Touches and I have a thought of the plot and know mostly what I want to accomplish with it, but at the moment, that's all I have. FT took 4 years in between everything else, and I don't want this one to take so long. So I figured this would at least give me a good jump start. Second, I tend to be very critical of my writing while I'm writing, as far as sentence structure, etc. While trying to get so many words in so little time, there is no time for critical editing during the writing process, so I'm hoping this will be a great experience and a lesson in just getting it out there first and saving the editing for later. I tend to work well and better under pressure. I'm hoping the same is true with this challenge. I challenge all of you novel writers to join me! Go to www.nanowrimo.org by OCTOBER 31st and sign up to challenge yourself. It isn't a contest or competition. The winners are the ones who do their best to get to their goals. Good luck!
