The Eyes Have It
Dedicated to my friend Val who had emergency surgery last Monday on her eye.

Eyes are the windows to the soul
Or so I've often been told,
Eyes of brown, green, blue, grey
And hazel flecked with gold.

Eyes dark and mysterious,
Eyes wide open in surprise,
Eyes that reveal the thinking,
Eyes that beguile and disguise.

Eyes that have seen nothing,
Eyes that have seen too much,
Eyes that mirror emotion,
Reach out and seem to touch

The very secret places that
You keep deep within your heart,
Eyes that say I love you,
Eyes that deceive, tear you apart.

Eyes so full of promise, that
Hint of pleasures just ahead;
Eyes that have lost their spirit,
Eyes of the living dead

That have lost their way in life,
And dimmed over the miles,
Eyes that light up the darkest day,
Reflecting golden smiles.

Eyes shining with excitement,
The questing eyes of a child,
Eyes that appear gentle then
Darken and look quite wild.

Eyes that give perspective to
Any vision that they find,
Eyes can be indifferent,
Then some eyes can blow your mind!
