The Letters
He left something behind.

She swims in sadness
through dizzy days
and restless nights,
with break-downs
a few teardrops away.

Around every corner,
his face a vivid memory of
a moment from long ago,
she remembers how
his lips felt
against her shoulders
when he’d twirl her tresses
as she fell asleep on his chest.

She envisions how
his fingers once painted
words upon her stomach,
but she wasn't perceptive enough
to realize
the letters he etched onto her heart
would be all that he left behind.
