Juliet
Just a few musings based on one of Shakespeare's most famous characters

My passionate affection is denied
No single thing, but for my lover's hand
Because of my dear father's wretched pride
In this war that has conquered all the land,
And made my heart a barren, bitter place -
A tomb for Nature's glory to repose,
Away from sight and touch of Love's embrace
And in damn'd virginity, decompose,
Save for a Rose that struggles from the soil -
My champion, adorned in bloodied red.
O Heart, ensnared in Lust's hypnotic coil -
A victim of its passion 'til I'm dead.

The poisons that adorn forbidden fruit
Pollute the love that might lie at its root.
