Our family gathered around the room.
We numbered thirteen, this seemed unlucky.
Sitting and watching I expected doom.
The others all chatted feeling ducky.

The holiday brings us all together.
Usually we talk about all the food.
This year I sat and wondered whether
I'd be able to shake this gloomy mood.

The table set, we sat at our places,
waiting eagerly for yummy delights.
You could see hunger on all the faces,
When the bird came it commanded their sights.

Thirteen was unlucky as the turkey
Came out of the oven cooked like jerkey.
