Strength
A poem I wrote after breaking up with my first love. I lived.

Deep down in a pit of despair,
No one looked down and nobody cared.
Deep inside, alone I cried.
A new day dawned and once more I died.
No promises made and no words spoken,
The pit is deep and the fall unbroken.
Only a tune, sung to the moon,
Blind and deaf to a gathering gloom.
Sick to my stomach because of my heart
And a one-sided love that I didn't start.
Another grace, another place.
When I look around, I see just one face.
They say time is the healer and I am strong,
But the cut is deep; can I endure that long?
So wave good-bye as I dry my eyes;
How grey seems the dawn
When I look at the sky.

Now, I'm looking up and I still can't see.
I need faith like iron - faith in me.
Just throw me a rope and I can cope.
I need a small light, a ray of hope.
Is there someone there? Please look down.
Tell me what do you see? What have you found?
Can I trust you? I need to;
I can't make it alone. There has to be two.

I can see the stars and I'm trying again.
I'm bleeding and torn, but enduring the pain.
I've got my hand on the edge. I'm gaining the top.
I pull myself up, exhausting my strength,
And stop.
And though I see with dazed eyes that my future is curled,
I'm level again with the rest of the world.

The End
