December's Child

A star in the East shown bright
on Bethlehem one December night,
to lead the way to a manger where
a new mother said a fervent prayer.

"God protect this little one,
Your child, God, your only Son."
And then she heard the angels sing,
"Glory to God, a newborn king!"

Holding the babe close to her breast,
she trusted Him and she was blessed
forever more, so meek and mild,
She kissed her son, December's child.

A Savior born, the earth is blessed,
Her world was filled with happiness;
and people came from near and far,
each one guided by a shining star.

His life on earth began that night,
a teacher of men, a miracle mite;
his days numbered by God above -
A spark of hope, undying love.

From manger to cross, He traveled on,
Belief and trust are never gone;
Touched by angels, He came and went -
A little child that Heaven sent.
