WHEN I THINK OF ENGLAND

[A trading company came for trade and colonized India with connivance of the English Crown]

When I think of England then what picture comes to mind?
That of a tiny nation whose traders set to find
India’s riches, of which already had spread the word,
All across the four corners of Europe and the world.

East India Company, just a trading concern,
Was rather dishonest in its Indian sojourn.
Greeted as sincere friend by the Indian nobles,
EIC officials started fomenting troubles.

They were given shelter and some land to house themselves,
But they came out with intrigue and artillery shells.
From trading to usurping power in this country
Became their aim blessed by England, the world sentry.

In course of time this plunder was sanctioned by the King,
Converting sovereign land to British underling!
