Writing Resolutions

Happy New Year everyone!

Something about the beginning of a new year seems to cause us to look toward fresh starts. We make resolutions to lose weight, stop smoking and exercise.

What about our writing? Do you make writing resolutions? If not, what better time to start?

Setting goals can help elevate your writing to the next level. Goals can help to improve your craft. For instance:

1. Plan to write a certain amount of words per day. If you already do this, try upping your word count by, perhaps, one hundred.

2.Try a new genre.

3.If you write strictly poetry, try a short story.

4.Resolve to start reviewing. I've found that reviewing helps to make my own work stronger.

Can't quite make that commitment on your own? Join a group or forum that is geared toward writing. The possibilities are endless on this site!

Last year, I resolved to get serious about my work. I joined Writing.Com and haven't looked back since.
This year, I plan to expand my horizons. I have two novels in the works with which I plan to make serious progress. I want to try new forms of poetry. New genres. I have 365 days to do this. So do you!

So, I challenge you to challenge yourself creatively this year! I can do it and so can you!

Nikola

Next week's newletter will be brought to you by a bouquet of balloons, buttons and the bubbly scherpenisse!
