New Year's Eve, 2004
How I spent my New Year's Eve

Dedicated to my Dear Uncle Fleaby

New Year’s Eve

It’s 2 AM, on New Year’s Day
And I really should be sleeping away
What’s left of the night on this New Year’s Eve
But I’m not, for you see, I’ve an appointment to keep.

It’s 6 PM, on New Year’s Day
Where my friend lives, half a world away
Vigilantly ringing the New Year in
For each time zone, in case we miss a single friend

So we sit talking and Happying away
On this special mission on New Year’s Day
On the stroke of each hour we cheer and say
Have a Happy, Happy New Year’s Day.

At last, there is only one hour to go,
My friend sits in sunshine while I think of snow
How can the clock be moving so slow,
Is it New Year’s Day yet in Pago Pago?

Finally the clock has gone right around
But out on my street there isn’t a sound.
Hello, My friend, our mission is complete
We now deserve some hard won sleep.

“Happy New Year!” comes back from my faraway friend
We have happied the whole world’s New Year in,
Our mission’s a success, and our hat’s are off,
So we say goodnight, and quietly logoff.
