The River and the Road

I went to look
At the river today
And all I could do
Was stand and stare,

And stare and stare
And stare and stare
At the road that is
No longer there.

The river went raging
along its course,
Screaming and laughing
With a loud voice:

“Look at me!
See what I did
To the road that used to
Connect my banks?

I leaped up and washed it
right away! Ha! Ha!
It was such a funny
Kind of day!”
