As Daria walked through the woods near her home one day, she happened to see a beautiful bunch of flowers waving in the slight breeze. The bright colors looked so inviting in the deep shade of the trees that Daria found she could not resist going closer to take a look at them.
The nearer to the flowers she got, Daria noticed the flowers grew in an almost perfect circle and with a cheery laugh, she jumped right into the middle of them. Almost instantly, Daria began to see little flying bugs, only, when she looked more closely she saw they weren't bugs at all! "Hey! You aren't bugs, why, you're fairies! Aren't you?" Daria continued to watch as the little winged beings circled her, their colorful wings in shades of pink, purple, blue, green, and yellow all mixing into a glorious rainbow. One particularly bright purple winged one flew close to Daria's ear. "Help! Can you help?" it asked her as loudly as it could. "Sure!" said Daria, trying not to swat at it. The little breeze created by the small violet wings tickled her ear but she tried not to laugh. "What can I help you with?" "The Goblin Prince has taken our Queen and will force her to marry him! If he does that, then we will have to serve the Goblins!" "Oh, no!" exclaimed Daria. The bright little fairies led Daria down a pretty path through the woods. She had never noticed this particular path before and the moss was a funny glowing blue color instead of the deep green she was used to. Small forest animals peeked at the little procession as they passed, squirrels quickly scurried up trees and called warnings out to the rest of the forest. Daria had to run to keep up with the flying fairy group; they were very quick! At last, over a small rise the Goblin kingdom came into view. Right in the center of the the tallest mound sat the Goblin Prince's castle. It rose only about three feet at the highest tower and Daria had to kneel down to see inside through the tiny windows. The little castle was a shimmery green color, with pretty silver flags waving in the breeze. Inside the castle, Daria saw many squat little creatures, with skin shades from gray to blue and green. As soon as the little goblins saw Daria, they began running and screaming "A giant! A giant! It's going to eat us all! Run!" And they did. Little goblins began to run in every direction, fearing for their lives as Daria's hand crept inside to free the pretty Fairy Queen who was in a little silver cage hanging from the tallest tower. The Goblin Prince tried to fend off Daria's hand, but he was no match and soon the Fairy Queen was free! "She's mine!" the little Goblin Prince yelled. "I love her! She has to marry me!" The little cage swung back and forth as the Queen flew from it. She was beautiful! Her wings were a very bright red and the first thing she did was to touch her wand to the Goblin Prince and turn him into a toad! All the little fairies cheered at this and welcomed their Queen with great joy! Daria introduced herself with a very deep bow, promising to help the fairies again if ever she was needed. The Queen, bright red wings creating a ticklish breeze, smiled and flew around in a graceful circle around Daria's curly hair. The poor little toad, formerly the Goblin Prince, croaked as he hopped away out the castle door. Daria giggled as she watched him trying to learn the art of landing upright! The fairy troop gaily led Daria back to the pretty circle of flowers and just as the sun went down, Daria heard her mother calling her in to supper. The Fairy Queen flew very close to Daria and gave her a little flower shaped box, inside was a slender golden chain and on it dangled a perfectly shaped silver toad! Daria waved as she left the woods, smiling as she thought about her adventure. "Why," she thought to herself, "I've been in a Fairy Tale!" The End.
