Desert Nightsong

Cold moonlight casts stark shadows
Crystal sand breaks in tinkling
Splinters beneath my feet
Behind junipers giant joshua trees lurk
Harboring spirits of ancient warriors

Fierce in the night the yowl of a coyote
The soul of a warrior crying
Denizens of the night skitter
From black shadow to black shadow
Leaving prints to be discovered
In the morning sun.

As I wander through the night
In slippered feet
The bright moon full shines down
On this alien landscape

Moonbeams drop glittering around me

I look into her full face
To find secrets hidden.

I lie on the sand
With my head on a rock
And stare at her bright glory
'Til sleep takes me
And I dream I fly to her
On angel wings.
