March 16, 2005 Drama Newsletter
About This Newsletter:

Life is Drama. Whether it is merely a leaky faucet or a torrential downpour, there is drama at every turn.

Words are sacred. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones, in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
~Tom Stoppard

Letter From the Editor:

Yesterday, my day was rife with Drama from morning until I arrived home late last night!*Shock*

While working on the computer not long after climbing out of bed, the electricity blinked off and on several times. In my small town this can mean a number of things. It could just be one of those things, a blown transformer, or auto accident.

I looked out the window on the northeast side of the house. Nothing out of kilter. A neighbor was in her front yard on her phone. She talks rather loudly and I heard her ask the person on the line "where the fire was." She said the smoke was blowing right over her house! Hold on now, my house is right across the street!
I took off for my sunroom to look out and sure enough, smoke was pouring over my house from the southwest! To make matters worse, the wind was blowing hard from that direction. I couldn't tell if the fire was on my side of the highway or not. If it was, I would have to start loading what I could in my car.
I finally couldn't take being so unsure anymore. I hopped into my car to check it out. The fire had been contained. It was on the other side of the highway, on the roadside. Luckily for a small housing addition (mine), our fire department was quick to get on the flames. Thanks guys!

A little later, I called my sister to confirm our plans for the afternoon and evening. While talking with her, I found that a dear friend's brother had passed away. Sadness was now added to my already raw emotions.

My sister picked me up around two. We drove to Oklahoma City to meet a friend and her little boy. We were to meet at Sooner Mall and then head off to Bricktown. Bricktown is awesome! I highly recommend it to anyone who visits the "City." It's an artsy type of area. It has a river walk, restaurants and shops. We ate at the Bourbon Street Grill and wandered around for while.

Then off to the main event--an Oklahoma City Blazers hockey game!*Bigsmile* It was their last regular season home game and a must win to make it to the playoffs. There were fights, goals and lots of cheering.
In the middle of the second period, our friend's son started to get a headache. It got steadily worse and he began to run a temperature. She thought it best to get him home. We found out later that he had been sick four times on the way home and was running a fever of 104! Poor little guy!*Sad*
Back to the game, the Blazers beat the rival Memphis Kings and will be in the playoffs! Yay!

The point of this story is that drama can take quick turns, as proven by my day, many times during the course of twelve or so hours. I had possible tragedy, illness and excitement. I could have lost my home, a friend did lose her brother and then I had the fun and energy of the game. Believe me, I feel like I've been run over by a truck today!

Until next month,
Nikola

Ask and Answer:

It seems I had a bit of Drama for my first newsletter!*Confused* I forgot to sign it! I apologize for my oversight and I appreciate those that let me know.*Heart*

From esprit :
A good first letter! I wouldn't want to be on a hill watching the storms come in! You're a brave, good citizen. The editor's picks look wonderful BTW, did you realize you forgot to sign your letter?
Thanks! And "oops." I don't really know if I'm a good citizen or just crazy!

From Vivian: publisher, author :
You were nice enough to introduce yourself except for who you are. Welcome, and thanks for a dramatic introduction.
Thanks Viv!

From Puditat :
Oops-Tornado Alley dweller-you introduced yourself but forgot to leave us with a handle.
Anyway, nice intro.

Thanks!

It's nice to know that I have ya'll to look out for me!

From Justice :
Thanks for including my story, Ellen Smith: For Sale, in the drama newsletter. It's my first foray into a true drama and I really enjoyed the process.
You're welcome and thank YOU for writing it! I enjoyed it!
