On A Sunday Afternoon in Winter

To sit in the chair and hold you,
There is nothing I would rather do
On a winter Sunday afternoon.

With the oven on to warm us
And a soft blanket to snuggle in
I hold you close as you life grows dim;

The TV babbles on and on,
Porch cats play outside on the lawn,
And your purr rumbles soft as a song

I stroke your soft fur and I cry,
The afternoon is flowing by
I must hold you close before you die.

This day I engrave upon my heart,
I will remember it always
Until the very end of my days.

Written in tribute to my precious Tiger Magnificat, who is dying.
