One Word
How many disagreements can a loving couple withstand?
Rated:

Avg Rating: (12)

One brief moment is all it takes
A flare of anger she will never forget.
One barbed remark, one hurtful word
To say something that he’ll ultimately regret.

His rage is focused solely on her
And she just cannot see the reason why.
One harmful comment, one spiteful taunt
She’s upset, she’s sorry and she’s trying not to cry.

He’s irate, frustrated and looking for a reason
Wants an explanation for the stupid thing she did.
One mumbled apology, one whispered excuse
He stares at her, tells her he’s no longer interested.

Foul names spill wildly from his mouth,
Weeping she runs to escape this terrible rage
One derogatory name, one disgusting term,
A war of words in which she refuses to engage.

Alone she sits as her tears flow free
She remembers he once loved her very much.
One gentle hug, one loving caress
Once - long ago, she yearned for his touch.

Next morning he apologises, blames it on the beer
He drank too much last night, his head is very sore
One vitamin tablet, one goodbye kiss
Leaves for work, telling her he’s not angry anymore.

And that night he’ll come home early
Smiling and laughing as he tells her of his day.
One tender touch, one passionate kiss
It’s all been forgotten – what more is there to say?

But she knows the resentment mounting
Unresolved anger is growing deep inside.
One barbed remark, one hurtful word
And the love they once shared will wither and die.
