I have been reading Haunted Castles Of Britian and Ireland By: Richard Jones. This man has traveled to England and Ireland and been to the haunted castles he has written about. I would like to talk about some of them. I love castles and I believe in ghosts. If you do, too, I hope you will read this and enjoy. Boo! Megan

Okehampton Castle

This castle is in ruins but there is a story to tell. Mary Howard, a well to do lady disinherited her children. {How sad.} The reasons aren't known. In the spirit world, she has been confused with Lady Frances Howard-a woman who poisoned her four husbands. She is believed to travel across Dartmoor in a carriage made out of the bones of the husbands she murdered. She plucks one blade of grass from the hillside. She appears every night in the carriage and will do so until the grass has been all plucked. I would hate to see a carriage made out of skelton bones!

Berry Pomeroy Castle

The powerful Pomeroy family arrived with the Norman Conquest in Devon. This castle is in ruins, too. It was struck by lightning in 1685. There are reports of ghosts here. A blue lady haunts the hollow shell of the manor house.She had got pregnant by her own father and she smothered the baby as soon it was born. She wonders the ruins of the castle in remorse. {The poor woman.}

In the dungeon of the ruins, there was a stone spiral staircase that lead down into the dungeon. The wicked Eleanor Pomeroy imprisoned and starved her sister Margaret because they both loved the same man. Margaret was the beautiful one of the two. Margaret's misty form appears in the depths of the tower and vistors can feel the cold chill of her unseen presence as she brushes by them going to her eternal prison cell. This would be spooky. {At the old county building I work at in Indiana, I feel vibes like this from time to time. We have a ghost of an administrator that used to live there.}

Powderham Castle

Powderham Castle is the ancestral home of the Earl and Countess of Devon and was built in 1379. Many of the medeival rooms still exist and are haunted by several ghosts. Two hundred years ago, workmen discovered bones of a woman and baby in a secret room. They had been bricked up to die. They haunt the castle.

Another ghost is the "Gray Lady." She can be seen wandering around the grounds or in the library. She leaves a cold chill where ever she goes.

The Tower of London

It is believed that Henry VI{he was stabbed to death by the Duke of Gloucester}, his wail of pain can be heard as the clock strikes midnight.

It is believed that the ghosts of Anne Boelyn and Lady Jane Grey return to roam the tower where they were executed.

I found these interesting stories. Hopefully, you won't be reading these before you go to bed.
