Friends
        by ~ the bibliophile ~  (lady_roc@Writing.Com)
I was walking to the park one day
The sun had chased the clouds away
When I saw you
Playing ball

I looked down at the ground, suddenly shy
Then picked a dandelion passing by
Made a wish
Then I blew

I glanced up to see if my wish came true
Squinted my eyes, and then saw you
Looking at me
Eyes bright

You looked at my feet, then my face too
Until you saw me looking back at you
You smiled
And laughed

To me you then bounded ahead
Held out your hand and solemnly said
"Let's be friends"
And grinned

I looked down at the outstretched hand
And slowly considered your command
I nodded
Shook your hand

We held our hands to our lips, then out
Raised them high and gave a joyous shout
Made a pact
That day

To be friends.
