Andy sat cross legged on the floor. What to make today? He opened the large book in front of him. A thick cloud of dust billowed from the book. The pages were slightly worn but the large pictures on every page were still clear. Andy considered each picture. After many pages he finally found something interesting. Muffins! That’s what he would make. The ones in the picture looked delicious. The boy jumped to his feet and raced outside.
He went through his mental list of ingredients. Dirt, his sister’s teacups, leaves, twigs and water. He collected each item and carefully put them in a row. First he mixed the dirt and water. The mud oozed through his fingers as he stirred it together. When he was happy with the consistency he added some leaves for colour, then twigs for texture. With everything now mixed in he started filling the teacups one by one. ‘Andy, it’s lunch time.’ ‘Just a second Mummy, I’m almost done.’ Andy piled the last of the mixture into a teacup. He looked at his work proudly, then bounded inside. ‘My goodness! What on earth have you been up to?’ Andy’s mother looked down at her son. A large smile spread across her face. Andy was covered from head to do in dirt and grass. ‘I made muffins for you Mummy. Come and look!’ Andy grabbed his mothers hand and dragged her outside. ‘You like em?’ Andy looked up at her with large hopeful eyes. 'Mud muffins; they are wonderful honey. Thank you. Now go inside and wash up for lunch. You’re filthy.’ Andy’s mother smiled at the mess her son called muffins as he skipped inside. Written for "Daily Flash Fiction Challenge"
