BIG DEAL “Hello, I’m ringing about your advert in the paper.” “Oh, right. You’re interested then?” Gerald had been trying to sell his Black and Decker workbench for so long he was surprised that someone had, at last, made an enquiry. “Oh yes,” replied the female voice. Gerald was impressed that a woman would show an interest in D.I.Y. “Would you like to come and see it?” “Definitely. How much is it?” “Well, Ł10 is what I asked. It’s in good condition but if it’s not as good as you anticipated I’m open to negotiations.” “That sounds like a very good offer. When can I make an appointment?” “Tonight if you like, the sooner the better.” “My sentiments exactly. Just one last question. Can I just ask about the size? That is an important issue with me.” “Well, it’s quite compact when it’s flat but erected it’s about three foot six.” There was a long pause. “Is there a problem?” Gerald enquired. “That is Sylvester’s Stud Parlour isn’t it?” Gerald replaced the receiver with a smirk. He may not have sold his workbench but he’d have a good laugh with the lads tonight.
