YOU MUST SWIM
When life is dead And gloom is spread, There’s darkness all around; When man’s travails Cause sighs and wails, There’s not a joyous sound; When not a friend Comes to defend But turns into a foe, When soul is sapped And one is trapped, There is no way to go; Then do we scream? Let out the steam? Or make a brooding pout? Or keeping brave, From this dark cave, Do we an escape scout? God helps but those Who don’t oppose His will and carry out All His commands As He demands And calmly go about. So man, listen, Let truth glisten. You surrender to Him. At the river Do not quiver To cross it, you must swim. • Written in aabccb 4-4-6-4-4-6 format. M C Gupta 13 April 2005
