Reaching for a Rainbow
A poem about recovery.

Climbing out of darkness,
shyly, surely, step by step,
reaching for a rainbow
even if progress is slow.

Leaving the past behind,
leaving negativity.
Though not without a fight,
I climb towards the light.

Chin lifted that bit more,
shoulders straightening,
hearing the birds sing,
admiring the colours
on a butterfly’s wing.

Letting the nightmares go,
letting go of bad thoughts.
Though not without a fight,
I climb towards the light.

Away from all the darkness,
shyly, surely, step by step,
reaching for that rainbow,
even if progress is slow.
