About This Newsletter:

Life is Drama. Whether it is merely a leaky faucet or a torrential downpour, there is drama at every turn.

Words are sacred. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones, in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.
~Tom Stoppard

Letter From the Editor:

A great drama unfolded before me last weekend. I sat on a wooden bench and beheld a playing field.
The field was of a square shape with a platform set at one end.

Soon, a woman and man, the Queen and King, arrived and took their places at the platform. A motley assortment of players took their places on the field. A Sergeant of Arms took his place at the head of the board. This, my friends, was a human chess match.
The King and Queen were to call the game, but the King made a decision that he should like to play the role of king for his side. He called upon a second to take his place next to the Queen in the platform and the game was set to begin.

The Queen called her move first, then the King's second. Several moves later, one of their "pieces" was ready to take the other. The Sergeant at Arms called out "kill the board!" and the players, save the two, stepped off the playing field. The two players faced off, for in a human chess match, a player must earn the right to "take" the other piece. This customarily takes the form of a sword duel. Once a player is "down" or has admitted defeat, he, or she, leaves the field of play.

This went on for awhile. The Queen moved her queen piece to the position next to the opposite king, which, of course, was the King! The King set about flirting with the lovely "chess queen" at his side and his bride observed this and ordered her own queen off the board.

The game carried on until the last of the Queen's players admitted defeat in his duel. The King was victorious!

As you read this, do you notice other genres than Drama? There is certainly Action/Adventure. What about Romance? Although I didn't go into detail here, there was a good deal of comedy also. Of course, the Fantasy genre comes into play.
It is very possible, and truly adds interest, to throw in other bits of genre to your work. It also brings the element of fun to the author who is writing the piece!*Smile*

Until next month~~

Ask and Answer:

From megaroonie bunny What a cool idea! Thanks for sharing some of the older pieces with us.
Thanks! I truly enjoyed reading them myself!

From Schipperke I LOVE to read the older pieces. I try to highlight them in the newsletters I edit along with the newer pieces. I also like to go to compilations of "BEST" items different members have awarded in their ports. You can find some excellant work. Although I truly miss the work of the Opal Twins...
Thank you! I enjoy the "treasure hunt" of finding wonderful pieces to read and feature. I, too, miss the opal Twins. They were amazing writers!

From esprit Nikola, this is such a good idea! We needed to be reminded of the older pieces that seldom get out anymore. With new pieces everyday, it's easy to forget the older ones.
So true! I enjoyed it so much that I plan to do this kind of NL again.

From Demon Squirrel of Doom! Wonderful picks, Nikola! I tend to sort by oldest first at least once a month, just to see what's been around for awhile. I've found some wonderful reads doing this!
BTW, excellant picture there, really shows the meaning of the word "drama" well!!!
*violet*Thanks! I'm so glad you enjoyed this NL. As for the pic, it's my best friend's grandson. I saw this and thought "yep, he's got the Drama thing down!"

From Puditat Awesome job Nikola. It is just fantastic to see some oldies and goodies featured. It is great to support our Newbies, but we shouldn't forget our stalwarts in the process!
Thank you! I agree. As important as our newbies are to us, we need not forget those who have older pieces in their ports.
