What is more terrifying than giving your heart and soul to another?

I never knew.
I never understood
until I placed my heart
in your hands;
the only thing
more terrifying
than giving my soul to you,
was the chance
that someday
you might give it back.
I hesitated then,
caught halfway,
pausing just long enough
that the worst
came true,
and you said,
'this belongs to you'.
When you turned away,
I ran after you,
truly gave my heart
into your care,
and now I know,
that it was, in fact,
created just for you.
