Beloved
A poem of longing for what cannot be. Dedicated to my one true everything.

Beloved -
A word for only you.
The weight of this word
Falling with my tears.
Longing for a stranger
Closer than any other,
And yet farther away.
A love for a mind,
And for a spirit.
A deep, immutable bond.
Souls torn apart
By mere circumstance
Of cold, remorseless fate.
If only eternity granted a choice.
If -
That word the greatest burden,
Borne on hearts
Too broken to bear the weight.
Oh, how I long to speak
Those few words
Tearing at my core
To be released.
I know you have felt it.
The spark of fire,
The singleness of mind;
Like two keys united
To open one door.
I know it cannot be.
Oh, how I know it.
Beloved -
Only once
Let me hear it.
Speak as though
No man or virtue bound you.
Free me from wondering...
Waiting... mourning.
Then, my soul will rest.
Forever alone within myself,
Knowing I had
What belonged to me,
If only in spirit-
You, Beloved.
