SUNBURNED

Summer days have finally come
and when all is said and all is done,
nothing can beat the water and sand...
The sunburn, of course, wasn't planned!

The beach was quiet and serene
when first my family appeared on scene,
but the day was hot and soon came
scores of people, with sand to claim!

We outlasted most all of those folks,
untill nightfall, telling funny jokes
and singing songs of good cheer,
really glad that summertime is here!

The moon rose over the water below
the air turned chill but we couldn't go,
so we built a camp fire and stayed on
By the time we left, it was almost dawn!

The morning brought me some regret
I'm sunburned so bad I won't forget
the splash of the water and the sun
so warm, so searing - but such FUN!
