Reason for Life

I believe there are many reasons why there is life. Some are global, some personal.

I feel we are here to serve God, both globally and personally. There are billions of ways with which one can accomplish that -by witnessing the power of the Son He gave for the salvation of the world, by serving the rest of His creation, by other means we can't even fathom, but above all, by believing in His Son and accepting His love. I feel that is the most important reason, but not the only one.

I feel we are also alive to grow and to progress as our Father leads. I have long entertained the philosophy of reincarnation, and theorized that the world was basically a classroom, with each new life cycle equated to a year in school. Unlike the Buddhists, who think they advance themselves through each life, I say that it happens through God.

Along the same lines, I believe that God has certain experiences He wants every soul to go through at some point in their existence for the sake of their development, just as everyone has to take general-ed requirements for their Associate degrees. I speculate that this is another facet of the “evolution theory.” However, going to school is much more than just learning facts and concepts. We must also develop character and relationships, and stretch in new directions to grow.

This doctrine has nothing in it contradicting the Passion of Christ. Faith in Him could still be a prerequisite, and even the last test, a final for the students that can crash the highest and brightest if they fail to pass the Final Exam.

You may ask, “What is this ‘Final Exam’?” It is the final perquisite of Heaven – accepting the love of His Son, who subjected himself to the lowest and most excruciating punishment so that we could live. He bought our souls with the ultimate sacrifice, so that we are not our own, but God’s, and we must do His will, not our own, by serving Him and our fellow creation.

This brings us back to the central idea of divine service. It is impossible for a mortal mind to comprehend the workings of God, yet this I try.
