Dem Bones
What happens when the lights go down?

The lights fell dark upon the room,
Displays of artifacts and bone.
Darkness crept over like a veil,
Hiding the faces etched in stone.

A glaring glow moved round the floor,
From a guard waving a flashlight.
The secret keeper of this world,
Saving secrets with all his might.

The light gave way to darkness now,
And something strange happened at once.
A creaking sound, shifting and loud,
Of moving feet that danced and pounced.

A bird spread its wings to take flight,
Though no feathers moved in still air.
It opened its beak wide to cry,
To the kin it knew were not there.

The ground trembled under the weight,
Of four tall legs that stretched up high.
The soundless call of a giraffe,
Whose neck climbed up into the sky.

Stone tomb’s cover slid to the side,
Revealing a secret to tell.
A corpse in old, rotten wrappings,
Stumbled forward but tripped and fell.

A flash of light stretched forward,
In response came the rattling bones.
The bird returned to its own nest,
The old giraffe sat back alone.

The mummy scrambled in a rush,
Pulling himself off of the floor.
He dove into his stone cold bed,
And slid the slab in place once more.

“That sure is strange,” the guard mumbled,
“I swore I heard movement in here!”
He scratched his head and walked away,
The dead stood still, silent with fear.
