Forgive This Heart
poem on love and the right person

Forgive This Heart

Please forgive this faultful heart
for the transgressions it commits.
I loved you from the very start,
a wondrous day I'd never forget.

You occupied a great emptiness,
a void, I tried to fill alone.
I cursed the lonely quietness,
the king of sadness on his throne.

Sometimes it's hard to do what's right,
when the norm is to do it wrong.
Try to reason in the still of night,
why my character's not too strong.

I'd longed for love, yet could not find,
trusted feelings, I thought were true.
Only to see they were most unkind,
until I shared sweet love with you.

In myriad ways, love's changed my life
and put to rest my doubts and fears.
It's you my love, my friend, my wife
who shares her loving heart so dear.
