Summer Storm
A sonnet written for the Summer Splash contest

Azure skies veil a verdant summer plain,
Grass sways softly in the wind’s gentle breeze.
Dark clouds are heavy with the promise of rain,
Bringing relief to the plants and the trees.
A silver thread shines in the midday sun,
The river flows slowly through the valley.
It fades as the heavens now darken,
The scent in the air is so fresh and sultry.
An eagle calls out as he soars in the sky,
The promise of rain fills the humid air.
The sound of the rain is a gentle sigh,
Feel a storm in Africa – if you dare!
Lightning flashes and the rumble of thunder,
The noise and light - the silence they shatter.
