It didn’t visit when I was in the crib I’d have seen it in my mother’s eyes Perhaps it came when I was seven That was when I discovered lies It wasn’t around when I was sixteen Back when I was dazed and confused It could have appeared after I left home I often believed I had nothing to lose It never made it’s presence known When making mischief or causing grief On sleepless nights when all alone Or even the times I played the thief Until one day I made a decision To make my broken life whole I gave Conscience my permission And offered Him a place inside my soul
