My Conscience
When did it first appear?

It didn’t visit when I was in the crib
I’d have seen it in my mother’s eyes
Perhaps it came when I was seven
That was when I discovered lies

It wasn’t around when I was sixteen
Back when I was dazed and confused
It could have appeared after I left home
I often believed I had nothing to lose

It never made it’s presence known
When making mischief or causing grief
On sleepless nights when all alone
Or even the times I played the thief

Until one day I made a decision
To make my broken life whole
I gave Conscience my permission
And offered Him a place inside my soul
