Cold Eyes
A poem of a woman who through fear is closed to the world of love around her

Cold Eyes

You look on the world with cold eyes
Focussed only on your days mission
No time for anything else
Some would say you are unfeeling
But that is because they look on you with closed eyes

For all those that take the trouble to truly see
It is clear how deeply you do care
Totally devoted to your cause
Willing to fight to ensure your beliefs are upheld
Still when a man of desire speaks
You seem unable to answer
Words clouded
Unable to make that connection
They pass

Still others approach
Throw themselves to your feet
Though so focussed on your path
You fail to see them
Oblivious to the broken hearts you leave behind

Maybe the truth is that you are simply to scared to try with those desired
To see the desperate actions of those desiring you
For to admit or give into those ideas
Would require you to once again be vulnerable
To break the stone encasement of your heart and walk away from the debris
To release the fear that has become your master
So once again the warming fire can rage in your eyes
And happiness return

Tonight I offer up a dream to you
That one day soon
You may find the strength to lose the hardness
Free the angel inside
