The Garden of Live Flowers: Mind Your Manners!
Courtesy

When it comes to courtesy, sometimes just hearing a few polite phrases here or there can be really beneficial. The words "I'm Sorry" work wonders to alleviate a tense situation. It is good when someone recognizes they made a mistake and shows they are actually working to repair it.

Other good phrases to hear are "Thank you" and "Excuse me". Probably the absence of the latter phrase is the one that is the most jarring when it is omitted for me. Even worse is when those words are replaced with the wrong ones. When someone rudely pushes past you it is bad enough... However it reaches new levels of obnoxiousness when the offender decides to accompany it with a yell of 'move', 'watch where you're going' or perhaps the worse of them all 'scuse you'. There's not much more annoying when a person uses those last two words are a vicious mockery of the words they should be saying. Not only is it clear that the person knows the appropriate phrase for that situation, that person is intentional taunting you by doing the opposite.

New Yorkers have a little bit of bad rap in the manners department. A lot of it is undeserved but it probably doesn't help that in almost every crowded area in the city there seems to be one jerk that decides the 'scuse you' is appropriate when pushing past someone. It is hard not to be tempted to throttle everyone that does that!!!! *Rant*

...I'm sorry ... I might have have gone off into a little bit of a rant on that subject. Excuse me. ^_^;

As for thank you... That polite phrase of appreciation really goes a long way towards acknowledging that someone helped you. That quick and simple gesture can make a world of difference. With that in mind... thank you for reading this!
