I Write - Decade Edition - Roaring 20's

I make my way to an unknown part of the city
where I have been summoned
for a meeting with a client
I know nothing about
The retainer had me rubbing my hands in greedy delight
It is an odd request, but for such a fee, I comply
And venture out alone
Into the night...

Dark forces stir
The air is heavy with dread
I can barely draw in a breath
As I make my way through this unknown part of the city
It feels as if I have left the real world
And passed into some alternate universe.
Bleakness spreads like a fungal mould
Darkness bleeds from corners
Chocking out the light.
As I reach the place I've been told to go
A bolt of florescent light cuts the night
And six dark figures make their way
Through the passage towards me
My voice catches and hangs
Dread surrounds me like a heavy rope;
Binding me in place as I stare transfixed
Red eyes bore into mine from shiny silver masks
Faces are twisted to resemble the clowns
Of horror tales
Their empty expressions tied up with syrupy smiles
Cut deep into the silver's form
One wears a crown that pulses with coloured lights
And though I hear not a sound
He seems to beckon me forward
His white gloved hands hailing me to come
Unable to stop myself
I move as if gliding over the rubbled street
Toxic fumes assail me as I am pulled into their lair
I feel my life, as I have known it, slipping away
My past, only figments of memories
Growing hazy as they fall away
And shatter
I am beyond lost
I have never existed.
