What I Give
Awakenings

I cut my heart out and hand it toward them.
Stupid boy.
Put it back in.
We only need your blood.
The eels slither, smile,
caress my flesh, soundless,
suck, suck. Leaches.
I’m supposed to enjoy this.
We like your taste.
We’d like more.
I’m learning this is my giving,
wither and pale,
grow scales defenseless
against the swarm.
