This is a popular verse, one often memorized by children. How often do we apply it though? It basically means that we cannot go to a gun fight unless we know how to use the gun. Nobody should be saved today and preaching tomorrow. They should study intensely first. The disciples all went through three years of training under the direct tutelage of Jesus Himself. One thing that always yanks my chain is when people quote things but cannot give the scripture or they quote things the Bible does not say. I havee heard "Spare the rod, spoil the child," all of my life and people say Solomon said it in Proverbs. No! He did not say that. Sorry. "Cleanliness is next to godliness," is another one.
