A Song for All Ages
I know you think you’re grown
and I let you do everything on your own
No more texts that ping at midnight
demanding to know “Are you alright?”
I have a new system these days,
to gather data in other ways.
Was the bathroom light left on?
Is the last slice of pizza gone?
Did you forget to lock the door?
Are there boot prints on the floor?
Even if you wipe your shoes,
there are lots of other clues.
It helps to settle a mother’s head
knowing you’re safely tucked in bed.
