If you were to be granted one wish, what would it be?" Where did the Greed go? I sat for a good five minutes contemplating this possibility. My wish is that all greed in the entire human race is replaced by curiosity, wonder, and delight of the universe around them. My thinking is, greed is responsible for most if not all the conflicts between people everywhere in the world. Most wars between nations and arguements between individuals usually deals with someone having something that the other nation or individual thinks they should have. On the other hand, greed plays a major role in the discoveries and the technological evolution of mankind. Greed is the main driving energy behind ambition and competition which promotes the evolution of technology. Without greed we would still be living in caves and eating raw vegetables, living very short and dirty lives. That is if mankind could survive this long under those conditions. So, instead of just removing greed as the compulsive facter for the betterment of mankind, let us also make curiosity, wonder and delight the driving forces behind the improvements of mankind. Make these emotional factors as strong as greed is within man's breast. It still requires intelligence to be curious, but if there is a sense of wonder about the world and delight in how the world is perceived then Columbus sailed to the new world not in search of gold and riches and an easier trade route to the East Indies, but rather to really see if the world was round and to see what lived on the oceans to the west of Europe. He sailed with the purpose of discovery for discovery's sake. I imagine how rich world cultures would be today with people learning and assimilating and inventing just for the pure high they would get for doing so. The victory reward would be the pleasure they felt for achieving. If they didn't quite achieve the goal thay had expected, they still gleened enjoyment in trying and will look forward to trying another project because the last one was just so much fun! My wish would change the world. I cannot imagine wars or disputes happening often on a planet where joy is the goal and not personal gain at someone elses expense. In such a world, I cannot imagine poverty existing, nor violence of the emotional, verbal, mental or physical kind. There would be no need for weapons of mass destruction, so they would never be invented. I can see a curiosity toward other religions and spiritual belief systems and other cultures rather than the need to kill because of how those differing beliefs may threaten ones personal gain and survival. The cultures would thrive rather than than be eliminated from existance. All of life would become an experiment and everything that brings happiness and the urge to improve would evolve. All those things that didn't work would fall on the wayside. I think after the life I have lived, I would arrange my wish so the world would be as close to an emotional utopia as is humanly possible.
