Detroit (viii) 'embers'
[ASR] Detroit has been depicted as shabby and poorly maintained.

Detroit

(viii)

♠♠♠♠♠

sand and salt
the dirt of demolition
the dust of long neglect
covers the human artifacts
and the street lamp that no longer
lights the abandoned street where nobody lives

humanity's paint peels off the walls
its waste lingers in the gutter

how many forests gave up their lives
to shelter the huddled masses
now reduced to ash they
harbor only vermin

yet embers glow behind new towers of glass
and hide in the legacy of the rusted
automobiles that once
defined this town
