Spoke to John Grech last night before the Sabres game. So good to hear his voice. He was having the guys over to watch 'da game'. Told him I had three hockey poems published. He will be skating in his over 30 league tonight. Sabres ended up losing to Carolina 2-4, but they skated well this year. Far better than expected.

Speaking with John reminded me that a lot of my trauma is in my head. Just can't get past it. Saw Kelly at Indy Inc. Her co-worker Sue does therapy for trauma so I'm hoping by some time next week we can talk.

Pas d'action

Stick flicks
at the cold puck.
Ice sprays from sharpened skates.
The surprize of his pirouettes
scores goals.
[163.175c]

For the love of smooth ice

Ice melts
beneath the skates,
refreezes, not quite smooth.
It trips the unwary winger,
cracks bones.
[163.174a]

Summer league

All hail
a game in June!
Come heat or mist or melt ...
when the Zamboni clears the ice
we skate.
[163.174c]

A kissing game

Your smile
wiped clean by ice
now reddened from split lips.
It will only take ten stitches,
leave scars.

Around the round-about on Nineteenth Street:

Spice of matricaria; the soft lamb's-ear; a purple star balloon attached to a yellow yield sign; an iron sculpture piercing stone; the twine of morning glory vine.

At the supermarket:

I pick a white blossom, inhale the scent of citrus; the fuzz of peach; the velveteen of apricot; the cool a/c;the heft of pineapple; Guatemala stickers on the bananas; furry kiwi from Chile; eyes of the potatoes; rough husk of coconut; green-white, yellow-white and pink-purple onions; fragrant white carnations (thoughts of Michelle Pastorelli).
