Wheat penny

for Gary McPike at 4 years of age

The wave of wheat:
green, pale green,
golden
bends
to the winds
of inflation;
this one cent
will not
buy
you much;
better save it
for the bread of life,
of wheat grain
growing,
your wheat hair
blowing in the wind;
no government
can devalue
you;
but this
paltry cent
minted before
your grandparent's time
is all you'll have
of Nineteen-
Forty-
Five.
It's
all you'll
need when Lincoln
speaks from copper lips
of God and Trust
while markets
spin the
price
of wheat:
up one cent,
down one cent, like
waves of heat, like
wind that blows
through
flaxen
hair.

L'aura del campo

Spring: 17 Bahá 164 (6 April) 33º, cold and sunny

'é a lua, é a lua, na quintana dos mortos'
♣ Federico García Lorca ♣

A potpourri of fragrance

I picked lilac, dandelion, cherry, thalia, and violets. On the way home ... vibernum. I put them in my pockets. The scents of Spring cheer me up.

When the white-flakes of winter return to turn all newborn flesh to mush. I will have Spring in my pocket and the memory of all the Springs before it.

WRITING

Started a message forum: "Plum petals, Roseberry thorns (Open, but not 'pretty' ... yet. NOTE: Anyone can use prompts and post; it will not be a contest). I'm going to pattern it after this wonderful writer's forum: "Poets' Practice Pad"   [18+] by Joy . I write constantly to prompts. Many don't speak to me immediately; some are hidden in over 25 booklets. There are those that grow up into sketches. A few become the poems you read.

Types of prompts:

The day's images: sight, sound, taste, touch, smell; however pleasant or disgusting.

Lines from poems and prose that lead me to write my own.

Funny things people say ... will get me in trouble some day. *Laugh*

Photos, pictures, anything visual. Much of this then leads to an ekphrastic experience (art based on art)

Serious stories I read, hear, experience. Rarely cheerful.

Recent: I wrote cinquains about halite [24h], sylvite [24s], crabs [24c]; "Don't touch" [25] a not-so-short poem based on a haiku of Taigi; short stuff based on haiku of Buson [27a], Issa [27b].

My plugging is working! From last entry: "Susan-of-the-waves (renamed, edited). Still needing reviews:

"Footprints in the snow (for Nyia Page), "Violets, "Song of an Age, "In search of Iris, "Crow feathers, "Like water for chocolate,, "Love-lies-bleeding, and "Spear.

These are in a folder I have renamed Room 222 "Room 222 - New Poems, because they pay 222 gps per review.

Me, my friends and my family

Jobs and organizations in this town are putting some friends in jeopardy of losing thier income source. Not good. It may very well affect my well-being, but I am oddly serene about it all at the moment ... strange.

Gawd ... do I have a pile of old clothes to go through and save, wash or toss! Same with boxes I haven't gone through since last June or before.

My friend Carol has a horse. Now I find out another friend may have one too ... what's this about the beasties that I don't get. Will I have to get a horsey too?

As I emailed to my friend:

"She goes all da vay? Neigh. No vay!"

Daily Scripture

O SON OF MAN! Veiled in My immemorial being and in the ancient eternity of My essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty.

WATT'S GNU!

All this controversy about American Idol? Do I care? I can tell you that I witnessed an anti-vote campaign in Tulsa about three years ago. So that is possibly what is going on this year too. It's not like it's the national election folks. *Rolleyes*

IMAGES and RAMBLINGS

Cold. Daren's sig 'Taste the Ice'. ... could melt the ice in Antartica.

Robin sitting on its nest.

Snow monkey tea, cookies, hot chocolate and hours later? Hunger.

The weather has been chilly, not fun to be out in. We got spoiled by the warmth. Snow expected at my mom's for the next few days.

BLOGVILLE AND THE WDC COMMUNITY

Found a writer-new-to-me: VB is catching up and left a comment in her blog entry: "Invalid Entry in response to her receiving a rejection letter from Iowa Writer's Camp. When you are a sophomore in high-school, this is not the end of the world ... it just seems that way. *Smile*

For those interested in Easter/Spring customs, go read AL 's entry about Easter witches: Påskkärringar in her blog entry: "Invalid Entry. Does anyone know the way to Blåkulla? I think someone once told me to go there. *Bigsmile*

Except ... Easter may be cancelled. See: "Invalid Entry as reported to us by galinago

Also did you notice the milestone in entry numbers? runningwolf04 just entered entry #500000 today: "Invalid Entry.

And a last personal massage (should read 'message' or do I leave the typo as is? *Smirk*) to partyof5dj: How many moose poops can I buy with this Montana quarter?
