Opinion Thursday: Remembering the last ten years
It's Opinion Thursday! The November 14, 2013 prompt for "30-Day Blogging Challenge ON HIATUS is
What do you think are the most significant events from the past ten years which will make it into the history books in the future?
Make your case for at least 3 events.

1. The launch of the Kelper Mission in 2009.
2. The Rise of Social Media
3. The United States government Shutdown of 2013

Of the top "Top 10 Major Events that Occurred in the Month of March (2003-2013)"1 the event that I believe will make the history books of the future because it will have the most impact on humanity and human culture are is the launch of NASA;s Kelper Mission in 2009. This photometer was launched on March 7, 2009 to search the MIlky Way galaxy for extrasolar planets. This mission has discovered 1235 possible planets orbiting 997 stars. The discovery of planets around other stars means that human beings will have to take an new look at what it means to be human.

Of the five events listed in the article "What happened on the last 10 years (2003-2013) that will go down in History?"2 I believe the event that will go into the history books because it will have an impact on human culture is "The Rise of Social Media". Social media allows individuals all over the planet to learn about the lives and struggles of other individuals on Earth. It shows us that despite the obvious differences we human beings are the grass root component of a single species. Once we learn how similar we are then our differences become inconsequential.

The third event I think will make it into the history books of the future is the "United States federal government shutdown of 2013"3 because it showed how selfish and close minded some partisan politicians are and how disruptive partisan politics can be. While the politicians and party leaders may not have learned anything from this disaster, many of their constituents have because they were the ones most effected by the shutdown. This will have a profound effect on the way these people will vote in future elections.
