Prompt 1: Pink, fluffy unicorns are apparently very popular. But what about unicorns who aren't pink? And who don't have a fluffy personality at all... ~story

“Daddy, tell me a story.”
“All right. What do you want tonight? Goldilocks? Snow White?”
“No. The unicorns!”
Jim perused the bookcase, “Where is that book?”
Tell me the story!”
“Tell? I don’t know …”
Big blue eyes, golden curls, Jim could not resist the imploring expectation on her cherub features. “Well, let’s see…” he positioned himself on the chair, resting all his weight on the front edge of the chair, “you sure you don’t want to help out?”
“Yippee!”
“Umphh”. This was the part of being a dad that Jim loved: The part where his daughter flew into his arms and trusted that he would not flinch or drop her; The part where the peel of toddler giggles burst forth uninhibited.
“I want unicorns and – and -- and candy and – and -- and mommies and daddies and – and -- and…”
“That’s enough to start. I think. Okay. Let’s see. Well, once upon a time in the land of cotton candy, there lived a herd of pink unicorns.”
“What’s a herd?”
“Once upon a time in the land of cotton candy, there lived a bunch of pink unicorns.”
“I like pink. See?” Jim dutifully admired the pink jammies.
“You sure do, don’t you?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Once upon a time in the land of cotton candy, there lived a bunch of pink unicorns.” He paused to watch Kaley weave her pudgy fingers into various shapes.
“More!”
“And the pink unicorns only liked pink unicorns. Any other color unicorns had to go away.”
“Why?”
“They only liked to talk about pink things and the other color unicorns liked to talk about school and stuff.”
“Why?”
“Um, well that’s a good question. Why would a pink unicorn only want to talk about pink things?”
“I’d like the other colors.”
“Yes, me, too.”
“More!”
Jim pulled his ankle over his knee, shifting Kaley’s weight as he continued, “Let’s see…so one day the pink unicorns decided to have a party.”
“Why?”
“Kay-Kay, I think we need to try something else.”
“Why?”
Jim pulled her close and kissed the top of her head. “Daddy likes poems. Okay?”
“Uh-huh.”
When Jim had gathered his thoughts, he cleared his throat and channeled his inner Shakespeare,

“Hang thy unicorn head in shame
Dignity lost and nothing gained
Move thee mighty stead to other regions
Tuck thy tail and withdraw from our legion
Or conform to the fluff and pink
It is easier than you think
Set aside thy nobler aspirations
To find thy space in this coterie nation”

Kaley moved quickly. Her little hands slapping the sides of his face, looking deeply in his eyes, “Daddy! Speak English!”
Jim clutched his arm from the air where he had used it for dramatic effect to deliver the poem and wrapped Kaley in a bear hug. His laugh came out more of snort. Reposting her to a cradle hold, “Okay, I got the message.”
“Mommy speaks English!”
“You want mommy to tell the story?”
Kaley instantly contrite as only toddlers can do, “No. I’ll be good.”
“I’ll be good, too. Ready to try again?”
Jim grinned at the way Kay-Kay mimicked his wife, “Yes. Better be in English.”
